The Three Essays

There are a few things I found interesting about each essay. The first essay, How I Learned about the Power of Writing, had some things that I found very interesting. For example, when Mr. Bullock talked about how he would sneak out of his crib, grab the newspaper, and then take it back to his crib so he can read it, I find that very interesting because usually you don't hear about a toddler reading the newspaper. Of course it shows the power of reading and how people strive to learn more and more about the world around them.  The writing by Shannon Nichols entitled Proficiency was interesting in the sense this young girl had a passion for writing and then, when she takes the proficiency test, she realizes she isn't as good of a writer as she thinks, which results in her losing her passion for writing. I just find it interesting how you love to do something, but you still fail. The main thing is if you like to do something, whether you fail or not, you actually haven't failed because you found something you enjoy with a passion. Last but not least, the Malcolm X essay. The most intriguing things about the Malcolm X essay is the story behind how he learned to read and write efficiently and how he would write down words out of a dictionary in order to learn them and then use them in every day life. The story behind his life interests me. Malcolm goes to jail, then begins to write down words from a dictionary, then begins to read all the time, even when the lights are out, and eventually, because of what he learned in prison, he ends up becoming one of the most influential people in American history, and one of the most influential people of the Civil Rights Movement. I would say Malcolm X did some pretty interesting things in his life.
